Light It: A Festival of Lanterns in Chinatown, LA

Light up your day and night at the Los Angeles Lantern Festival, just minutes from Blossom Plaza apartments in Chinatown, LA.

The Chinese American Museum (CAM) is about to answer that question at the 16th Annual Los Angeles Lantern Festival on Saturday, March 4. Did we mention that the whole event is free and is just a hop, skip and jump from Blossom Plaza apartments in Chinatown, LA? Well, It is.

 

 

So, join Angelenos for an all day celebration, from noon to 7 p.m., beneath Chinese lanterns in the vibrance of Downtown LA at the Chinese American Museum, 425 N. Los Angeles Street.

 

Traditionally, the Lantern Festival occurs annually on the 15th day of the first lunar month to mark the closing of Chinese New Year festivities, and it’s a hugely popular event worldwide. This event embraces the mission of the Chinese American Museum to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of America’s diverse heritage by sharing the history, cultural legacy and continuing contributions of Chinese-Americans.

 

Create Something Awesome

There will be a plethora of stations to learn how to make things, so be sure to bring your crafty side. Make an abacus, make a dragon puppet, make a lantern, make a kite (it could be a dragon kite if you want), learn Chinese calligraphy or get your face painted like a dragon (there’s definitely a dragon thing going on here). And there’s so much more!
